How to have the best time at Camp!
Many of you guys know I am a big sucker for sleepaway camp or just camp life in general!
This year would probably be my 4th year as a counselor at camps but I wanted to share some tips I have to parents who may be sending there child or teen to summer camp for the first time.
1. Dont worry about a thing! Seriously, your child will have the best time of their lives. Whether they are trying new things or going on a camp outs they will find something and want to share it with you and do it at home possibly.
2. Your child will be learning. I grew up getting sent to sleepaway camp or day camp every summer and honestly, I have never received so much education within those days in the hot sun and doing something fun. To me I felt like I learned more things at camp life lessons and also other topics than I would at school. Even learning those things at camp I always applied them to things I would learn at school just because I felt like I would learn things better that way.
3. Your child will get homesick but you will never get the call. Your child will only get homesick the first day or two. But honestly, we are doing so many activities your child will not want to leave camp when its over.
4. Pack things to do during rest hour. Usually my mom would send me a care package of goodies such as coloring books or cute stationary to write home. For day camps, my mom would always write a letter and put it in my lunch box. I always thought they were handy things to look forward to when you have down time. Down time is also good for meeting friends and playing games or simply sleeping which I did on rainy days haha.
5. Lastly, dont worry about a childs eating habits. Most camps these days are really hounding in on nutrition whether its one starch, a veggie, and fruit. Camps are also helpful if you are vegitarian like myself. A cool fact is most camps these days use the food from there own farm mainly if it is fruits and veggies which is usually there only source of meals they provide.
I hope you enjoyed this blog post and definitely share it with your child who is going to sleep away camp.
Down below are some awesome sleep away camps and day camps that I have been to that have good support for those with special needs or a fully special needs camp! I highly encourage you guys look into them especially if you are in the Atlanta area.
All and all, I hope and wish you all a happy healthy summer! If you were at the 22Q at the Zoo on Sunday I'd love it if you would comment down below and say hello!
Remember to sign up for the news letter that informs you on new things every other week.
Love,
Lindsey
